About Me

My name is Amanda, I am a qualified CBT Therapist, having completed a Postgraduate level Diploma in CBT and Groupwork. I have a particular interest in treating clients with OCD, as well as using CBT to support management of ADHD.

I have worked in a helping role for over 20 years, and prior to working as a therapist, I worked in adult education where I gained experience of using counselling skills and working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds such as people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, young people experiencing trauma, as well as people from a refugee background as well as neurodiverse individuals.

As well as a strong interest in mental health, I am also interested in physical health, and how mental and physical health overlap, particularly in relation to nutrition and gut health.

How would you describe your approach?

I strong believe in autonomy, and will work together with you, to support you to grow and develop. Part of CBT includes psychoeducation, that is educating on tools to help you become your own therapist. This helps maintain progress when you leave therapy.

Why did you choose to practice CBT therapy?

I chose CBT therapy as this is a collaborative approach. I believe strongly in client's having autonomy and like to work together with the client, rather than viewing the client as a 'subject'.

CBT also works to give the tools to support clients to become their own therapist, again promoting independence.
